MINIMUM WAGE

Bee Staff Writer Jocelyn Wiener wrote an article titled
When Ends Don't Meet The story is basically about how hard it is for people to maintain a living at the minimum wage. I agree its tough trying to raise a family at the minimum wage. The problem is most jobs at the minimum wage are usually entry level jobs traditionally held by summer high school kids, students in collage, seniors looking for more income or people looking for a part-time job. Unfortunately when you are a high school drop-out, single parent or can't speak the language or worse all three the chances of getting that executive position is relatively slim. Forcing a business to pay an extra dollar an hour wont help the Monique Garcias' in this state much, but having her get a GED and learning English might. But then she would no longer be a victim and dependent on the state.
