IMAX PART II

Because Ralph, Fetching Jen and Mahndisa are not on the Sacramento City Council the IMAX theater gets a reprieve. Well why not? Michael Morales got one. The SacBee reported today that the city council voted unanimously to pony up to the tune of $75,000 annually for five years to keep the IMESS I mean IMAX going until it brings in the stampede of people it has been promising for the past eight years. And by gosh we'll give them another five years to do it. According to the Bee several council members expressed reservations about subsidizing the theater. So to make them feel better part of the agreement was for IMAX to give 500 tickets to the city's eight council districts for children who could not normally afford a ticket. Let me see 4,000 tickets at approx. $13.00= $52,000 Why don't we just use the money to buy 6,000 tickets for the kids. This would bring in $78,000 for IMAX make 6,000 kids happy and bring in the much needed foot traffic. Of course 6,000 kids that cant afford a ticket wont spend much on K street, well we can always subsidize the other businesses.
Dana Phillips, legal council for the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency was quoted as saying "It's not a gift of public funds" Hey Dana if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck.

Has anyone of the idiots - I mean councilpersons, considered WHY Sacramentans are NOT stampeding to the IMAX theater? Getting there is a chore, parking is a nightmare and very expensive, if you don't get mugged, you can go to the tony and expensive Esquire Grille (Paragary expensive!) before or after your short movie, and after dinner, the panhandlers won't get a thing from you because your pockets will be empty.

Our City politicians still live by the "If you build it, they will come" motto. Yet time and time again, what they deem "worthy" of our patronage, flops, and after a hearty subsidy.

If we all could only be so cultured and sophisticated as out City leaders...

Hey Pappy: Thanks for mentioning us. Golly I just cannot believe the ineptitude of these wackos. I still don't get when it is ever the job of government to supplement businesses like that. Then again, I am a lowly citizen who knows very little about how city pay offs for politicians go and all that stuff...HARUMPHHHHH! :( Have a nice day Pappy:)
