Live 8 has certainly gotten a lot of attention, as it was meant to do. However all the concerts in the world, debt relief and charity wont help, nor will all the pontificating at the summit help.

I don't know why the rock stars don't go to the Sudans peoples liberation movement/army and ask them to stop recruiting children or ask why $500 billion in the last five decades has not brought relief. Since 1970 more than 30 wars have accounted for more than half of all war related deaths world wide. Until the despots that feather their own nests and starve their people are gone can things begin to work. Some analyst say"foreign aid creates and substains and unequal relationship that leaves Afican governments dependent on foreign generosity. It undermines self-reliance, breeds resentment and encourages corruption."
